Good to know
Granite is the hardest natural surface you can install for your kitchen countertops, second only to diamonds in hardness. Most granite is impossible to scratch, and its extreme heat resistance means you can place hot pans directly on the countertop. Because it is naturally porous, it can stain if certain acidic or oily substances are left on it, which is why we seal every installation.
Each granite countertop has its own unique pattern of colors, speckles and stripes. Granite comes from all over the world: India, Brazil, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and even New England.
Care & maintenance
Lighter granites are more prone to staining than darker ones; wiping spills promptly avoids most potential stains. We seal every top with a penetrating stone impregnator before installation and recommend periodic re-sealing. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners, which can etch the polish.
Common questions
Does granite need sealing?
Yes. Granite is naturally porous, so StoneOne seals every installation with a penetrating stone impregnator. We also recommend periodic re-sealing to help protect the surface.
Can granite handle hot pots and pans?
Yes. Granite has strong heat resistance, so hot pots and pans can go directly on the surface.
Will granite scratch with daily use?
Granite is one of the hardest natural countertop surfaces. Its surface does not usually show wear from normal daily use.
Can granite stain?
Yes. Lighter granite is more prone to staining than darker granite. Wipe spills promptly, especially acidic or oily substances, to avoid most stains.
Will my granite countertop be unique?
Yes. Every granite slab has its own pattern of colors, speckles and stripes, so each countertop has a distinct appearance. See completed countertop projects in our kitchen gallery.
